The Madanu story
I’m Rosa, I founded Madanu in 2015 following 20 years of working for national organisations, charities and social enterprises. I wanted to create better opportunities for people experiencing barriers to work and community life. We have all at times faced barriers, and we believe in working together to overcome these.
My driving force is my Aunt Margaret - smart, feisty, and fun, she also happened to have a learning disability. Some people were unable to see past this label and my grandparents were led to believe she would have few opportunities in life. She overcame many challenges to get an education and be part of her community. Even today, many adults still feel that opportunities in life are limiting. I know from Margaret’s example that doesn’t have to be true.
When the right people come together and share their ideas, experience and knowledge amazing things can happen for all concerned. We need to ask people what they want and make people’s aspirations come true.
